a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad — BUILD! Local contractor makes a debut on ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" |
||||
Matt Plaskoff, Michael Cook, Gregg Cook and the entire Plaskoff Construction team, made their television debut as the General Contractor on the acclaimed ABC home-remodeling show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition", Sunday, February 22, 2004. The show, lead by Ty Pennington of Trading Spaces fame, pits a crew of five designers and 100 construction specialists against the clock to perform a complete interior and exterior remodel of the home of a needy family in just seven days — a feat that would normally take between four to five months. "Matt Plaskoff and his crew are flat out amazing!" said Ty. "These guys can not only build a house in 7 days, but they do it on time, on budget and with a whole lot of class and style." The even harsher reality of it is that the actual construction must be accomplished in just five days and nine hours to allow the decorating team to complete the finishing touches on the home prior to the homeowner's surprise return.
Plaskoff, the General Contractor for this episode, likened the experience of being on the project to being a kid going to summer camp for the first time. "At first you go in and don't know anyone," explained Plaskoff. "You're scared and don't know what to expect. Then you meet some people, make friends... and then your parents call and tell you it's time to come home. That's when you realize it's almost over, and you ask... Hey - when can I come back?" Plaskoff considered it an honor to be a part of the team and believed that his team's efforts helped make the February 22nd episode a success. |
"I worked daily, not only coordinating trades, but also working with the production team on getting them the shots they needed," Plaskoff said. "I think that I was able to make the show better due to my sense of humor. I also understood what the production team needed, to do their jobs, and helped them make the best show they could. We couldn't forget that in the midst of an incredible remodeling challenge we were also making a television show." "Matt Plaskoff is a remarkable contractor," said Tom Forman, the show's creator and Executive Producer. "It is amazing to see what he was able to accomplish in one week! Matt did such a great job we invited him to come back for a second episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." Plaskoff Construction's second episode aired on Sunday, March 28th and was an even grander undertaking. "This time, we were charged with remodeling a home that was nearly twice the size while at the same time beautifying the entire city block," Plaskoff said. "Just when we thought we had figured out how to beat the clock, they upped the challenge." If increasing the scope and size of the project wasn't enough, the project was plagued by heavy rain during construction. Nevertheless, the Plaskoff Team found a way to complete the project two hours ahead of schedule. Plaskoff believes the ABC series fills a niche in that it brings a highly human element to the forefront of an otherwise mechanical topic. "The experience was very uplifting for the team," Plaskoff added. "I was really proud of what we had accomplished. Personally, I loved the madness and the challenge, but also the quiet times in the evenings to reflect on the work. The people were amazing from the talent, to the production staff, to the vendors and the employees. We learned a great deal about what we are truly capable of. All in all, it was one of the ten best experiences of my life."
