When
the objective is to double the size of the home while the family remains
in residence, especially in exclusive Hidden Hills, it's not just a
remodel. It becomes a production, a dance, and it needs a choreographer.
Because the project involved the entire house, the home would be in
utter chaos for many months. Plaskoff Construction was able to do the
entire renovation with the homeowners still in residence with very
little discomfort to them. That meant never having all the bathrooms
torn up at the same time.
When the homeowners decided to turn 1960s
drab into a 21st Century showpiece, it fell to Mike Cook, MPC's production
manager to put all his skill and experience, along with a fairly sophisticated
software program to work. Without Mike, the twin daughters would have
made life for their teenage brother miserable, and Mom and Dad would
have been left quelling a riot. Fortunately none of that happened.
The success of this project was in the attention to the details, an
art unto itself!
The second floor
of the home was complete with guest quarters and a small utilitarian
kitchen. This is where the family lived while 3000 square feet became
7000 square feet of exquisite living space and an additional two-car
garage. Then the family moved into the completed section of their home.
A temporary, but non-permeable wall was erected, and the remaining
half of the home was remodeled.
Because Mike was there to choreograph
every nuance of the construction dance there was less waste of materials,
more efficient use of trade contractors, and most importantly a happy
client.
Homeowner Paul Lesser is quick to point out: "Matt's guys
are something special. Plaskoff Construction will definitely do our
next project, and the one after that, and the one after that...”
