Plaskoff Construction : Bathroom Renovation

Recent bath renovations get noticed by LA Times

The LA Times recently took an indepth look at a Plaskoff bathroom renovation project in Westlake.

The 1970s master bath was poorly designed and awkward to use. The owners of the home may have been able to put up with it for a while longer, but a leak in the shower pan to the patio below, coupled with a large mirror tumbling off the wall at 3 a.m. encouraged the homeowners to seek a “top notch contractor.”

After finding Plaskoff Construction through a referral, the owners engaged designers Heidi Toll and Velvet Hammerschmidt, who expressed surprise at the contrast between the rest of the home and the antiquated bathroom.

The designers worked closely with Plaskoff Construction to ensure that their design concepts were cost-effective and practical from a construction point of view.

A bidet was removed, a toilet relocated to an opposite wall, and a seldom-used tub was replaced with a huge tiled shower area. But the most significant change was to open up the entire area, creating, at first, a bit of an adjustment for the homeowners.

“It’s pretty open,” the homeowner is quoted as saying in the LA Times article. “That design had to grow on us.” Later she stated, “I love the bathroom. I wouldn’t change it for anything.”

The homeowners had compliments for Plaskoff ’s team also: “(It’s) a very well-oiled machine.”

One of the ways Plaskoff Construction improves communication is by giving homeowners pagers.

“Our project supervisors will return calls and pages within five minutes,” Matt Plaskoff said. “It’s important to our operations that homeowners can ask us anything at any time.”

Winter is Coming

  • Clean your gutters and downspouts. Clogged gutters are the No. 1 cause of roof leaks.
  • Check your roof drains for blockage. Ponding, the gathering of water in one spot on a roof, can cause serious roof damage.
  • Time to check your HVAC filters. A clean filter keeps your HVAC system operating efficiently, saves costly repairs, and keeps your environment clean and healthy.

Some signs of possible home indoor air quality problems include:
— Unusual and noticeable odors, stale or stuffy air
— Lack of air movement
— Excessive humidity
— Presence of molds and mildew
— Feeling noticeably healthier outside

Plaskoff employees raise $700

Reacting to the terrible events on September 11, Plaskoff staff made donations, which were matched by Matt Plaskoff. A donation of $700 was sent to the New York Fireman’s Disaster Relief Fund.
