Zen Bathroom RemodelThis zen bathroom remodel is one that we’re particularly proud of. We love when our clients have a vision of what they want, it makes the remodeling experience amazing for everyone!

Frederic Hammered Copper Japanese Soaking TubOur team worked side by side with our client, Loree through the entire design and construction process to ensure that her vision of a serene and spa-like bathroom came to life.

“My goal was to be ‘wowed’ every time I walked in my bathroom,” said Loree “I wanted it to be functional but incredibly beautiful. I wanted to sit in my soaking tub and light candles and have it be very ‘Zen,’ like a spa at my house.”

When the client is willing to go out on a limb, using unique materials, the results are nothing short of amazing.

Like all projects, this one was not without challenges. Loree had a small 9’6″ by 9′ bathroom that contained a standard tub, toilet and vanity. What she really wanted was a separate tub and separate shower to achieve an open Zen feel, but saw no way to fit all that she desired without making it feel cramped. We manipulated the space ten different ways until we came up with the optimal layout.

Zen Bathroom FixturesThe centerpiece of the new bathroom space is the Frederic Hammered Copper Japanese Style Soaking Tub from Signature Hardware. Each tub is hand-crafted, hammered, and finished. The river rock sink from Eden Bath used in this bathroom is also one-of-a-kind and gives the space a natural, organic feel. Pebble wall tiles by DalTile round out the project giving a clean and finished look throughout the space while adding an interesting texture.

Thank you Loree for the opportunity to work with you in your home.

What does your dream bathroom look like?

Sincerely,

Matt Plaskoff

It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad – Build!

by Matt Plaskoff on May 9, 2011

Local contractor makes debut on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”.

Los Angeles, CA (February 19, 2004) – Local contractor Matt Plaskoff, of Plaskoff Construction in Tarzana, will make his television debut as the General Contractor on the acclaimed ABC home-remodeling show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” Sunday, February 22.

The show pits a crew of six designers and 100 construction specialists against the clock to perform a complete interior and exterior remodel of a needy home in just seven days – a feat that would normally take between four to five months.

Plaskoff, the General Contractor for this episode, likened the experience of being on the project to being a kid going to summer camp for the first time.

“At first you go in and don’t know anyone,” explained Plaskoff. “Your scared, and don’t know what to expect. Then you meet some people, make friends… and then your parents call and tell you it’s time to come home. That’s when you realize it’s almost over, and you ask… Hey – when can I come back?”

Plaskoff considered it an honor to be a part of the team and believed that his teams efforts helped make the February 22nd episode a success.

“I worked daily, not only coordinating trades, but also working with the production team on getting them the shots they needed,” Plaskoff said. “I think that I was able to make the show better due to my sense of humor and outgoing personality. I also understood what the production team needed to do their jobs and helped them make the best show they could.”

“Matt Plaskoff is a remarkable contractor,” said Tom Forman, the shows Executive Producer. “It is amazing to see what he was able to accomplish in one week! Matt did such a great job we invited him to come back for a second episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

Plaskoff believes the ABC series fills a niche in that it brings a highly human element to the forefront of an otherwise mechanical topic.

“The experience was very uplifting for the team,” Plaskoff added. “I was really proud of what we had accomplished. Personally, I loved the madness, but also the quiet times in the evenings to reflect on the work. The people were amazing from the talent, to the production staff, to the vendors who provided materials. All things considered, it was one of the best experiences of my life. ”

Reality TV Converts Contractor

by Matt Plaskoff on May 9, 2011

Second appearance on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” prompts new business outlook.

Los Angeles, CA (March 17, 2004) – Matt Plaskoff of Plaskoff Construction will be making his second appearance as the General Contractor on the ABC TV show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” airing Sunday, March 21.

For Plaskoff, home remodeling television shows have always been somewhat of a novelty. That is… until he made his first appearance on the show earlier this February.

“People love to see before and after.” said Plaskoff. “People love to see HOW it happened. They love the emotional connection they make with the family and are so happy for them when the project turns out well. I think in some cases, the viewers also long to be the recipient. They wish they too could have their lives changed.”

Since his February 22nd appearance on the show, Plaskoff has received dozens of e-mails and phone calls asking what he recommends for people who are in need of a snappy home remodel. These calls, combined with some common sense research led to an interesting business epiphany for Plaskoff.

“There is a big demand for people who want… but more importantly “need”, a quick home remodel” said Plaskoff. “We’re finding that the biggest barrier for people is not the budget, rather finding a contractor that can do the job, and do it fast.”

As a result of the positive feedback he has received, Plaskoff is reconsidering many of the traditional aspects and barriers of high-end home remodeling and has a new product line in the works – the fast home remodel.

Plaskoff explained that the most common reasons people need a fast home remodel are: people are expecting a child, people are holding special event at their residence, home sellers want to get a home on the market fast, home buyers want their new home perfect for move-in, the expense of moving out of a home during the four to six months necessary for large-scale remodel is cost prohibitive and more disruptive to the family’s lives.

“The experience of working on this show has really helped me re-think my business and how I can help people,” said Plaskoff. “I believe that anything is possible and what we’ve accomplished on TV is proof positive it can be replicated.”

Los Angeles, CA (June 15, 2004) – Matt Plaskoff of Plaskoff Construction in Tarzana has been named the exclusive General Contractor Consultant for the hit ABC TV show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

The show pits a crew of six designers and over 100 construction specialists against the clock to perform a complete interior and exterior remodel of a needy home in just seven days – a feat that would normally take between four to five months.

Plaskoff, who appeared on three episodes in the first season, was ecstatic when he learned of the new agreement.

“Being a part of the first season was spectacular,” Plaskoff said. “People may not know from watching the show at home, but, for the whole crew it’s a marathon of hard labor on every show. Sometimes we don’t sleep for days on end, but, each time we get closer to bringing one of these families back home – the emotion kicks us into overdrive and we end up with magic.”

Plaskoff knows the second season of the show will be exciting, action packed, and will push construction to new heights. He believes the biggest challenge will be coming up with increasingly innovative designs that will please both the families – and the show’s viewers.

“I’ve never met a contractor who puts as much personal labor, love and care into a project” said Tom Forman, the shows Executive Producer. “He built us two spectacular homes in our first season, and we can’t wait to have him back in season two.”

Mackey Miracle Makeover Keeps On Giving

by Matt Plaskoff on May 9, 2011

Plaskoff Construction Donates Ventura Blvd. Office Suite to “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” Recipient.

Los Angeles, CA (October 25, 2004) – Matt Plaskoff not only built the miracle makeover home for Consuela Mackey on last night’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” he also helped her makeover her business.

Mackey, owner of Operation Confidence, a non-profit organization that provides job training and employment services for people with disabilities, was awarded a one-year lease to a newly madeover Ventura Boulevard office as a special bonus to her “extreme makeover”.

Mackey, who has run the non-profit out of her cramped and rundown home in Granada Hills, was in tears when she learned of the new office.

“I’m forever grateful to Matt Plaskoff – he has no idea what he’s done for Operation Confidence,” Mackey said. “This is the best thing I ever could have hoped for – there is no description of how I feel at this point other than humbly grateful.”

Plaskoff, the show’s General Contractor for this episode, and Construction Consultant for the show, was thrilled to be in a position to help Mackey and Operation Confidence.

“There are rare times in life when you are able to use your talents and skills to help others that truly need and deserve it,” said Plaskoff. “By helping her maintain this amazing organization which helps the disabled find gainful employment, we’re able to give to more than just one individual and indirectly are able to help thousands. I am very proud of that.”

Plaskoff Construction Named In Best Companies List

by Matt Plaskoff on May 9, 2011

Local Contractor Ranked Number Five In Best Companies to Work For by Professional Remodeler Magazine.

Los Angeles, CA (February 9, 2005) – Plaskoff Construction of Tarzana was listed as one of the top 25 remodelers to work for in the United States by Professional Remodeler Magazine. Plaskoff Construction ranked number five of 25 companies that made the list.

The Reed Research Group, owners of Professional Remodeler Magazine, annually conduct an extensive study of remodeling firms nominated as one of the best companies to work for in the residential construction industry. The Reed staff examines information submitted by each nominated company, including average employee tenure, the number of female and minority employees, group benefits, and profit sharing offered.

Additionally, surveys are sent to a random number of each nominee’s employees, who are asked to be forthright in their opinions about their employer. Surveys are sent directly to the employees to protect the respondents’ anonymity.

“Being named number 5 in the top 25 remodeling companies to work for is the most important honor I could ever ask for,” said Matt Plaskoff, owner of Plaskoff Construction. “The secret is sharing information with your employees, treating them like a part of the team, involving them in decision making, and bringing the team together by spending social time together. We are the best because our employees are the best.”

Plaskoff also attributes the company’s above-average employee satisfaction and to taking chances as a company – such as Plaskoff Construction’s involvement in the hit ABC television show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” where Plaskoff serves as the shows Construction Consultant.

“Being a part of the “ABC Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” show has brought our team together in remarkable ways,” added Plaskoff. “The charitable aspects of the show have added a sense of pride and purpose that has penetrated all aspects of what we do- which I consider a rare gift.”
